UPGRADE YOUR CACAO WITH MUSHROOMS, NOOTROPICS OR ADAPTOGENS
There are many ingredients that you can use in a cacao drink. An interesting combination is with health boosting mushrooms. Medicinal mushroom have all kinds of benefits and are well known to support your immune system. It is an increasing research topic, but they have been used throughout history for a long time. Some examples of mushrooms that you can use in you cacao drink are: Reishi - Chaga - Turkey Tail - Lions Mane - Cordyceps.
MAKING CACAO WITH MEDICINAL MUSHROOM EXTRACT
This is the quickest & easiest way as you can add the extract directly to your cacao drink.
1. Make your favourite cacao recipe.

2. Add medicinal mushroom powder or tincture to your drink.
You can add an extract directly when mixing the cacao with water or plant-based milk. Just like you would add spices.
MAKING CACAO FROM A MEDICINAL MUSHROOM TEA
To get the benefits from functional mushrooms your body needs to be able to absorb its nutrients. To do so it can be extracted by boiling in water and making your own medicinal tea. You can use this tea to make your cacao with. Cacao helps your body to absorb it even better.
Here is an example with Turkey Tail:
1. Chop the mushroom in smaller pieces to extract it better.
Note that it can be though to cut as it has a strong texture.
2. Boil for 1,5-2,5 hours.
You can already add it directly when mixing the cacao with water or plant-based milk. Note that different mushroom have different advised boiling time.
3. Use the medicinal mushroom tea to make your cacao drink.
You can use any recipe, but the water is practically replaced by the tea that you've made. Strain the tea first so you don't have mushroom pieces in your drink ;-).
You can keep the extracted mushroom tea for some days in your fridge and make new medicinal cacao drinks by heating it up or drinking it directly.
