LIMITED EDITION - micro batch

National cacao from Ecuador

This beautiful and soft cacao grows in the Los Rios area in Ecuador. What makes this cacao unique is that it is a variety that has been practically lost, but propagated from a research project to preserve old flavors. The village close to where the cacao grows is called Amazu and the locals call this cacao also Amazu.

It grows in a healthy organic environment with many plants and trees, just to name a few: Guayacan, Teca, Balsa, Macadamia, bambú, Avocado, plantain, gros michel banana, coconut palms, pineapples, tahiti lemons, mango, cinnamon, amazonic cinnamon, guava machete, cassava, and chili.

Organically grown in Los Rios, Ecuador
Taste notes: fruity, floral and nutty (typical for Arriba National Cacao)

As the Ecuadorian government funded a program to grow the resistant (but much less interesting) CN51 cacao type, most fine flavor National cacao was lost. It was a time that farms where dealing with the monilla disease that destroyed many plantations.

This old variety has been kind of forgotten and we're extra excited to be able to offer this cacao for delicious ceremonial cacao drinks.

The cacao is organically certified, but we are not allowed to put this on our packaging because the last step to you is not audited by organic certification consultants.
