Starry Kakaw

Starry Kakaw

Discover the magic of combining pure cacao with star anise in this simple recipe. Star anise brings a fresh, spicy hint of oriental delight that perfectly complements the rich flavors of pure cacao. This warming drink is ideal for cold evenings, meditation, or whenever you need a moment of comfort and connection.

Why Cacao and Star Anise Work So Well Together

Cacao and anise go great together. They are like friends that have traveled for hours to enjoy each other's company. Anise comes from Asia, and brightens up your cacao drink with that fresh spicy aroma.

We love it with Cusco cacao from Peru, but you can also use Cahabon or Matagalpa cacao.

Starry Kakaw Recipe (For One Cup)

  • Heat 125ml of water + 125ml of oat milk with a star anise
  • Let it simmer and infuse for 3 to 5 minutes
  • Add a pinch of chili and ginger for extra warmth
  • Remove the star anise
  • Add 20 grams of cacao, making sure the temperature is around 70 to 80°C
  • Froth with a cacao frother and it's ready! ☺️

Tips for Your Starry Kakaw Experience

  • Temperature matters: Keep the temperature below 80°C to preserve the beneficial compounds, keep the oat milk well and that it is not too hot to drink.
  • Adjust the spices: Feel free to experiment with the amount of chili and ginger based on your preferences.
  • Make it a ritual: Prepare this drink mindfully as part of your cacao ceremony or ritual.
  • Try different origins: Each cacao origin brings unique flavor notes that pair differently with star anise
